Canon Finalist Best General Opinion Writer 2016
Hello and welcome to my site and my story. I'm a writer, newspaper columnist, TV presenter and personal brand coach. I started as a weekly columnist for the New Zealand Herald at 18, hosted the Paul Henry Breakfast show at 21 and am now a weekly columnist for Stuff & The Dominion Post. You can probably catch me regularly on The AM Show, The Project, Radio NZ and Radio Live. When I'm not getting involved in a good old TV debate, I'm a personal brand coach. I like to work in developing my client’s media presence, thought leadership, and business development through the art of the personal brand. For more info on that, have a look below. And if you're just here to browse, have a look at some of my writing below or keep an eye on FB @VerityJohnson.
When I started my media career at 16 in the NZ Herald, I started writing columns based on my own experiences and opinions. That meant I learnt very quickly how to craft my personal brand, and how I wanted people to see me and notice me.
That's how I got involved in personal branding. I learned how to create a brand to propel your voice forward and become a force for change on issues I'm passionate about.
Now, I help other people do just that.
So, do you know you need to up your personal brand game but don't know quite how?

My career started with my first weekly column in the NZ Herald as a teenager, and it's blossomed from there. I've since gone on to be nominated in the Best of NZ Journalism Canon Awards as Best opinion writer, and become known for my funny, bold, honest columns on everything from educational policy to not cleaning my fridge.
At the moment you can keep up with my latest scribblings in my Friday weekly column for the Dominion Post & Christchurch Press and Stuff online. For an up to date feed, keep an eye on my Facebook. To check out some of my favourite previous works, have a look below.
There's nothing I like better than starting conversations, after all, it's my job as a columnist to make you think.
So I can often be found on The AM show, The Project, The Rock FM, Newshub, Radio Live and Radio NZ as a commentator and regular panellist.
