Hello.

SCROLL DOWN

Hello.

I’m Verity.

I’m a columnist, journalist and tv presenter. Oh, and sometime satirical rapper verit$zzle (the dollar sign is silent).

If you’re looking for thoughtful writing, funny insights and unexpected angles on life then you’re in the right place. You can catch me everywhere from The Guardian to College Humor, and every Friday online at Stuff NZ and in print in The Dominion Post, Christchurch Press and Nelson Mail. Scroll down to read some of the highlights of my columns & articles.

I love words, ideas and stories. I love hot takes and unexpected angles on lifestyle and culture. Thoughtful ideas and unique opinions on everything from Instagram hashtags to Brexit to Brazilian waxes. But in the last few years with the rise of social media, it’s felt like my brain has been increasingly fed a diet of the mad, bad and downright crazy.

Getting all my news from my social feeds felt like I was drowning in a sea of shitty Facebook rants, clickbait headlines and endless goddam latte photos. In an age where everyone had an opinion, I felt I was drowning in noise. All I wanted was something decent, funny and interesting by someone who knew their shit.

Eventually I realised that other people felt the same way. So I started my newsletter, ‘Veritable’.

It’s a weekly inbox treat each Friday, designed to fill your brain with interesting, unexpected and genuinely stimulating thoughts. I cover all manners of lifestyle, culture and society topics, and always from a fresh funny angle. You can keep up to date with my weekly columns for Stuff, seem my recommendations the most interesting, relevant and fresh things I’ve read that week. Get updates on cool projects I’ve seen/heard/am involved in. And my weekly tips on where to get coffee and snacks in Auckland (every literary mind needs coffee.)

So subscribe to Veritable if you want funny, interesting brain food every week.

It’s like giving your brain a chocolate eclair every Friday.

my writing

my writing

it all started with writing.

My career started with my first weekly column in the NZ Herald as a teenager, and it's blossomed from there. I've since gone on to be nominated in the Best of NZ Journalism Canon Awards as Best opinion writer, and become known for my funny, bold, honest columns on everything from educational policy to not cleaning my fridge.

At the moment you can keep up with my latest scribblings in my Friday weekly column for the Dominion Post & Christchurch Press and Stuff online. For an up to date feed, keep an eye on my Facebook. To check out some of my favourite previous works, have a look below.

Let’s Talk about it.

There's nothing I like better than starting conversations, after all, it's my job as a columnist, media personality and commentator to make you think.

So I can often be found on The AM show, The Project, The Rock FM, Newshub, Radio Live and Radio NZ as a commentator and regular panellist. You can also catch me in my Stuff column every Friday and in the Dominion Post and Christchurch Press where I talk about the issues of today with a funny, fiery spin.
